Poetry Workshop

I've been running this poetry workshop around 4 years already. We have 2 - 5 members that attend each session. I would like a larger group to represent a potential audience. Therefore, I think two more members would be great.

We share poems (no more than two pages) with one another the day of the workshop. We try to provide feedback based upon our fellow writers’ goals for their work. We meet online (Google Hangouts) every two weeks on Sunday at 6PM EST. Some workshop experience would be helpful if you would like to join.

Healing Through Writing

Do you have a health condition and want to explore your thoughts and experiences about it through writing? It can be freeing to write about it in a group that is supportive and encouraging. We will write unique journal writing responses from prompts and then share amongst each other our most meaningful and powerful pieces. Writing prompts may trigger thoughts related to your health condition, but they may also just allow you to write openly about any thoughts and experiences that you feel the need to share. Many times these open pieces do indirectly relate to your health condition because they help you cope with the stress and pain of a disease. Sharing is optional, but it helps to get to know others within the group if you allow yourself to open up. Topics of interest include mental health/illness and cancer, as well as just overall wellbeing physically, emotionally, socially, and spiratually. Preference is for a group of people who have been affected by mental health illness and/or cancer.

CLOSED: An Aspiration Of Creators: Adventures in Writing

"Aspiration: a hope or ambition of achieving something."

An Aspiration of Creators: Adventures in Writing takes a two-hour plunge into our writing and creative passions. We meet weekly on Fridays from 7:00 to 9:00 pm EST/EDT.  The group meets on https://meet.jit.si/moderated/125cadc04c...

We devote 60 to 70 minutes of private writing within the group. You set your own goal, write at your own pace, create. The focus: write for that dedicated period of time.

Afterward, the floor is open to group discussions (The After-Talk).

We've covered a wide range of topics from what we are writing (current WIP,  plans for the future, what has come before), writing in general, setting goals, inspirations, feedback, and, really, anything creative that comes up.

Any creator of any genre, at any level, is encouraged and welcomed.

We hope you'll join in and add to our creative world.

Thanks

Stuart

Horror & Spec-Fic Critique

Critique group/workshop for writers of speculative fiction, especially those interested in, writing, or at least not squeamish about horror! Fairly traditional workshop setting (though writers can interject with necessary information if things are getting off track), with critique focused on improving & readying the work for publication.

Possible reading group add-on and/or writing-to-prompts, depending on interest!

NYC Writers Inspired by Folklore & Mythology

For NYC-based writers of all genres who want to workshop their folklore/mythology-inspired, adult-targeted WIPs.

#OwnVoices authors highly encouraged; authenticity reads required for those who are not #OwnVoices writers. All participants are expected to be deeply research-oriented and respectful of the diversity of cultures inherently present in the subject matter.

If there's enough interest, I'll consider expanding the group, but for now, we're keeping it small. We meet on the first Saturday of every month from 3-4pm EST. Location-based because the idea is to meet in person once COVID has significantly passed.

CLOSED: A Melody of Poetry

EDIT: August 2022

A Melody of Poetry is on indefinite hiatus. It is unclear as of 8/12/22 if the group will reconvene. This will largely be due to future committed requests to join.

As of this date, I also will not be moderating the group.

Stu

If you are a writer of/lover of poetry, A Melody of Poetry is for you.

A Melody of Poetry is a weekly poetry group. Every Sunday from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm EST.  While the main focus is on the poetry we produce, there will be evenings with Guest Poets, the occasional Poetry Slam (w/prizes!), Themed evenings (i.e., Women's History Month), and some surprises.

It is up to you if you'd like to share your work or want to be part of the audience. There is no pressure. You are encouraged to take your spot, but it remains within your comfort level.

There isn't any censorship; we only request that sensitive subjects triggering (rape, suicide, excessive gore/violence, etc.) are first introduced to give members a choice to stay or mute that part of the session.

This group is an open, friendly, and safe space. We will not tolerate any issues of disrespect, harassment, or sexual overtures to another member.

First time logging in? Please follow below:
