Editorial Focus

Books by The Bitter Oleander Press represent some of the best of contemporary poetry published in English and in translation. Although their concentration is primarily on contemporary poets in translation, they offer an annual competition for books of poetry in English as well. As a press, they seek out any language, uncommitted to the mediocre and the commonplace while being more integrated in the natural world. A language that helps define the same particulars in nature that exist in all of us and which have not been socialized out of us.

Tips From the Editor

Please inquire before sending a full manuscript. We have an open reading period for translated manuscripts between October 1st through March 31st and our annual English only poetry competition (BOPLOPA) runs between May 1st and June 15th and charges a reading fee.
