Editorial Focus

Fruit Bat Press is a handmade, limited edition chapbook press that is co-based in Chicago and Los Angeles. Fruit bats inspire us because they are dark and sweet at the same time — and they are expert foragers. We are committed to publishing work that embraces foraging: an unusual collection of ideas from a diverse set of perspectives with a basket of different emotions.

There is a $5 submission fee that goes to the cost of making books. If you are unable to swing the fee but want to submit, please contact the Editor.

Tips From the Editor

  • Manuscripts must be 20-40 pages in 12 pt. Times New Roman, double spaced.

  • One per person, please. No multiple submissions.

  • Simultaneous submissions are fine, but please let us know if your work is accepted elsewhere first.

  • Historically marginalized voices are encouraged to apply.

  • Accepted Genres:

    • Flash Fiction, Poetry, Prose Poetry, Short Stories, Novellas (No illustrations for now please. Words only—sorry!)
