Tips From the Editor
Smart, snappy lines and delightful twists get our attention. We like well-shaped contemporary verse with deft use of images, unusual metaphors, and fine attention to detail. Most subjects are fair game; we will also consider sci-fi, fantasy, and horror. We tend to dislike overt sentiment, break-up poetry, pieces more suited to live performance, political rants, pornography, and derogatory work. Rhyming poetry is a hard sell unless done well. We also consider forms. Push the envelope, but be tasteful about it. Do not submit if you are not open to the occasional edit.
