The 40th annual Write on the Sound conference will be held in person at the Frances Anderson Center in Edmonds, Washington, from October 3 to October 5; online preconference sessions will be held on September 27. The conference features craft sessions, workshops, a writing contest, an open mic, manuscript and poetry critiques, and information sessions on publishing and marketing for poets, fiction writers, and creative nonfiction writers. The faculty includes poets Christy Lee Barnes, Catherine Broadwall, Amelia Díaz Ettinger, and Ken Letko; fiction writers Andrew Buckley, April Dávila, Stephanie Dethlefs, Scott Driscoll, Anne Elliott, Elena Hartwell, Robin Jeffrey, and Sara Lunsford; fiction and nonfiction writer Ray Rhamey; nonfiction writers Colleen Foye Bollen, Michael N. McGregor, Nick O’Connell, tina ontiveros, Ronit Plank, Cara Stoddard, and Karen I. Treiger. Participating publishing professionals include editors Michelle Barker and David Griffin Brown (Darling Axe) and book coaches Shirin Yim Leos, Lisa Manterfield, and Andrea Karin Nelson. Fiction writer Jonathan Evison will deliver the keynote address. The cost of programming on Saturday or Sunday is $140. The cost of the online preconference sessions is $125; Friday half-day workshops cost $95 each, and registration for in-person Saturday and Sunday sessions costs $224 by September 1 and $280 thereafter.
