Funding/Employment Opportunities: 

The MFA at Georgia College & State University is a fully funded, full-residency three-year program. All admitted students receive full tuition remission and a graduate assistantship for all three years, which includes a stipend and teaching opportunities.

Graduate assistants gain professional experience teaching composition, tutoring in the Writing Center, and working in the Early College Program (modeled on the national Writers in the Schools initiative).

The program also offers assistantships for Peace Corps Paul D. Coverdell Fellows and additional scholarships for second- and third-year students. Additionally, all first-year students are eligible to receive a first-year scholarship worth up to $1,400 (amount may vary depending on class size).

The Peach Fellowship supports applicants with at least one year of experience in literary publishing, editing, or design, offering editorial and managerial experience through Peach, Georgia College’s new literary journal launching Spring 2027.

Other Features: 

The program hosts a Visiting Writer's Series, which brings in six writers to give readings and meet with students each year. Other features include the Martin Lammon Student Reading Series and the Writers in the Schools program with Georgia College Early College.

Part of the graduate assistantship is an allocated number of GA hours are dedicated to a role in our new nationally circulating literary journal, Peach, whether serving as a submissions or solicitations reader, serving as editorial assistants, or working on the podcast and interview team.
