Editorial Focus

Blueline seeks poems, stories, and nonfiction relating to the Adirondacks, as well as regions similar in geography and spirit, focusing on nature’s shaping influence. It also seeks nonfiction that interprets the nature or culture of northern New York, New England, or eastern Canada. Blueline publishes regional 2D visual art, including photography, painting, or sculpture. Query the editors about how to submit visual art.

Tips From the Editor

We publish both new and established writers and artists in every issue. You’ll catch our attention if your writing is vigorous and polished. We’re not interested in effusive descriptions of scenery. The writing we publish expresses imagination, reflection, and insight about the natural world. The poetry we choose conveys in original ways how language transforms experience instead of just depicting it or simply recording it. The short stories and nonfiction essays we choose are always realistic and dynamic narratives about nature and our relationships to it. If writers are unfamiliar with Blueline, we encourage them to purchase back copies to discover the span of writing we publish.
