The books that stay with me longest are the ones that ask questions more than pose answers. And though I work mostly on fiction, I’d say it’s the same for the nonfiction I love too. I want to be in the world of complexity, complicity, empathy, strangeness, imagination, and possibility. So my best advice to writers is to excavate, interrogate the gray areas, look for the unexpected, and then uncover what’s beneath.
