Two awards of $5,000 each will be given annually for a book of fiction and a debut book of fiction. Additionally, an award of $4,000 will be given for a book of nonfiction. An award of $1,250 will be given for a book of poetry. Two awards of $1,000 each are given for a debut poetry collection and a debut book of nonfiction. Works by writers who have lived in Texas for at least five consecutive years at some point in their lives are eligible, as are works with subject matter that substantially concerns Texas. Authors or publishers may submit three copies of a poetry collection, debut poetry collection, book of fiction, first book of fiction, book of nonfiction, or debut book of nonfiction with a $25 entry fee by January 8, 2027.
