The Department of English at Villanova University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor with a specialization in poetry. The appointment will begin in Fall 2026. We seek a practicing poet with an M.F.A. or Ph.D. in Creative Writing or English in hand by August 1, 2026 who can demonstrate a commitment to excellence in undergraduate and graduate level teaching.
The successful candidate should have an accomplished record of publication, including at least one book of poetry published by a nationally recognized press, and an ongoing commitment to publication in their field. While we are open to candidates with a wide range of subfields, we would especially welcome expertise in African American or Middle Eastern studies, ecopoetics, playwriting, screenwriting, and/or new media.
Teaching responsibilities include a 3/2 course load, primarily within the undergraduate Creative Writing Program, with opportunities to teach literature courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Additional responsibilities include mentoring undergraduate and graduate students, helping to host the Villanova Literary Festival, and contributing to the creative and intellectual life of the department and university.
Villanova's Creative Writing Program is housed within a dynamic English Department committed to comprehensive approaches to literary study. The successful candidate will join an accomplished community of writers, scholars, and educators who value a wide range of voices and experiences. We welcome applicants who demonstrate commitment to inclusive teaching practices.
