Kaatsbaan Weekend Retreats

The Kaatsbaan Weekend Retreats offered three-day residencies from October 3 to October 5 and from November 21 to November 23 at Kaatsbaan Cultural Park, a 153-acre artist sanctuary in Tivoli, New York, to poets, fiction writers, creative nonfiction writers, and translators. Residents were provided with private motel-style rooms, which included a desk, an en suite bathroom, and views of the surrounding countryside, in the Dancers’ Inn. Residents could also lodge in a two-bedroom unit at the Gatehouse Apartments, which included a private entrance and bathroom, a full kitchen, and a living area. Each resident had access to a private studio, a shared dining room and lounge areas, and the campus grounds. The cost of the residency, which included lodging, studio space, and meals, was $500; the cost to lodge in a Gatehouse Apartment was $1,000. The cost to attend in groups started at $500 for the first writer, plus $300 per additional writer. To apply, writers submitted an inquiry form by providing an outline of creative practice and specifying the intended focus for the weekend. Applications were accepted on a rolling basis.
