The program is fully funded; it offers competitive assistantships up to $18,000 at the PhD level, along with subsidized health insurance, partial support for conference travel and writing expenses, and other award opportunities.
Since 2012, the Visiting Writers Series has included poets Hanif Abdurraqib, Don Bogen, Eduardo Corral, Farrah Field, Alex Lemon, Ada Limón, Allan Peterson, Catherine Pierce, Natalie Shapero, Natasha Trethewey, Adam Vines, Caki Wilkinson, L. Lamar Wilson, and Kevin Young, as well as fiction writers Jamel Brinkley, Lauren Groff, Mary Miller, Peter Orner, Michael Farris Smith, Katy Simpson Smith, and Justin Torres.
There is also a student reading series and literary salons. Once per semester, a Submit-a-Thon is held where the school funds each student to submit to journals, contests, and conferences.
This is a four-year program, though students have the option to complete it in three years. Application deadlines are February 10 for fall admission funding and October 15 for spring admission funding.
