A limited number of merit-based scholarships are available, offering up to $5,000 per year in tuition remission based on full-time status (or up to $3,000 for part-time status).
Eastern Oregon University’s low-residency MFA in Creative Writing admits students for both winter and summer terms. The application deadlines are October 15 for winter admission and March 15 for summer admission.
Students attend back-to-back residencies each June: one week at the Fishtrap Summer Gathering of Writers at Wallowa Lake near Joseph, Oregon, followed by a week on the Eastern Oregon University campus in La Grande. In addition to workshops, readings, and one-on-one faculty mentorship, the EOU residency includes the New Nature Writing Conference, which brings visiting writers and the wider literary community to La Grande to explore new ways of thinking and writing about nature, place, and our changing environments. The program also offers an optional thematic course of study through its Landscape, Ecology, and Community concentration.
