Debut Poets Virtual Reading

February 1, 2023 to February 2, 2023

Join Poets & Writers Magazine associate editor India Lena González for a celebration of the ten debut poets featured in “The Beauty of Being: Our Eighteenth Annual Look at Debut Poets.” The virtual event, which will take place over two evenings, will include readings from the poets and conversation about their debut books, their influences and inspirations, and their individual paths to publication.

Introducing this year’s debut poets (clockwise from top left): Courtney Faye Taylor, Maya Salameh, John Belk, James Fujinami Moore, Noʻu Revilla, Shelley Wong, Rachel Mannheimer, Nicholas Goodly, Chia-Lun Chang, and Katie Marya. (Credit: Eugene Smith)

From the current issue of Poets & Writers Magazine: “For some of these poets the path to publication was a matter of four months, while others landed with their press after six years and thirty-three tries. Though the timing may be different for each writer, several of them mention literary community as the backbone of their collections and writing practices, and dance, allowing the improvisational language of the body, as the impetus for poetry and the cure for burnout.”

This special event will include two one-hour programs:
