The Center for the Humanities encourages collaborative and creative work in the humanities at CUNY and across the city through seminars, conferences, publications and exhibitions. Free and open to the public, our programs and exhibitions aim to inspire sustained, engaged conversation and to forge an open and diverse intellectual community.
Morrison Library opened in 1928 as a traditional library reading room providing an ambient atmosphere for students to take a break from the rigors of academic life. One of the architectural treasures of the UC Berkeley campus, Morrison Library offers comfortable seating for leisurely reading and maintains a circulating collection of newly published popular fiction and non-fiction. Morrison Library also has a limited collection of circulating audiobooks, travel books, and newly published poetry books, as well as subscriptions to several popular magazines and a few daily newspapers.
The Winchester Book Gallery is an independent, locally owned bookstore serving the northern Shenandoah Valley of Virginia since 1972. They sell new books, local art, cards, and puzzles, and regularly host book readings and signings, game nights, live music, and other literary events and local celebrations.
The Lawndale Art Center is located within the Houston Museum District and the Midtown Cultural Arts and Entertainment District, and hosts art exhibits, musical performances, and literary discussions and readings including the Gulf Coast Reading series. The series presents readings from University of Houston Creative Writing Program graduate students and contributors to Gulf Coast: A Journal of Literature and Fine Arts. The monthly series supports the journal’s mission to spotlight the work of both esteemed and emerging writers with voices as diverse as the Gulf itself.
Located in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, Pete’s Candy Store is a performance space, bar, and club. The venue hosts weekly poetry readings and other performances.
The University of Nevada, Reno’s Writers in the Woods Literary Speaker Series features readings and workshops with acclaimed authors in all genres. Community members and students can meet and exchange ideas with well-known poets and writers from all over the country.
Located in Seattle’s Ballard neighborhood, Secret Garden Books is a full service general bookstore featuring books for everyone, with a particular specialty in children’s books.
They regularly host author readings and signings, talks, book club meetings, and other literary events, and have expanded their programming to include author events, school book fairs, and cultural events throughout the city.
The Denver Woman’s Press Club (DWPC), founded in 1898, is one of the oldest women's press clubs in the nation; members include professional journalists, novelists, magazine editors, essayists, freelance writers, poets, historians, and corporate and mass communications specialists. Their historic 1912 clubhouse on Denver's Capitol Hill hosts a range of public programs, receptions, author readings and talks, and writing seminars throughout the year.
So Say We All is a literary and performing arts non-profit organization whose mission is to create opportunities for individuals to tell their stories, and tell them better. They achieve this through three core priorities: publishing, performance, and education.
The Benbrook Public Library provides a safe and comfortable facility and resources that meet informational needs, encourage lifelong learning, provide cultural enrichment, and support responsible citizenship. The library provides free services to all residents living within the Benbrook city boundaries, as well as non-residents.
The library also hosts various literary events, such as storytime, poetry readings, workshops, and more.
