Page and Palette

Established in 1968, Page and Palette is a third-generation family-owned bookstore offering new and used books in all genres. The bookstore also features a café, Latte Da, which sells coffee, tea, ice cream, and pastries. In addition to hosting its own book club, Page and Palette supports local reading groups, offering gathering space as well as a 15 percent discount for book club reads. Discounts are also available for books required by local schools. Hours are Monday through Saturday 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and Sunday 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM with extended café hours.

Trident Booksellers & Café

Founded in 1984, Trident Booksellers & Café is a restaurant and bookstore located near Fenway Park in Boston. The café, which offers fresh food, juices, tea, coffee, and espresso, is surrounded by shelves of new and discounted books. The Trident also features an award-winning magazine selection and a variety of novelty gifts. Hours are 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM seven days a week.

Located in downtown Asheville near Malaprop’s Bookstore, Battery Park Book Exchange Champagne Bar is a wine bar and used-book store. Enjoy your drink alongside a cheeseboard, some trout dip, or a local desert. Open seven days a week.

WORD Brooklyn

WORD has two bookstores, one in Brooklyn and one in Jersey City. Established in 2007, the Brooklyn location is a one thousand square-foot independent neighborhood bookstore in Greenpoint that hosts everything from the classic author reading and Q&A to potlucks and a basketball league (and anything set in a bar). Store hours are 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM every day.

Malaprop’s Bookstore/Cafe

Established in 1982 by Emoke B’Racz and located in downtown Asheville, Malaprop’s is an independent bookstore and café that serves food from local bakeries and organic, fair-trade, shade-grown coffee roasted locally. The café offers free wireless service and eight plug-in stations, plus three cyber stations that customers can use for a fee. As part of its mission, the bookstore gives back to the local community by donating to local nonprofits, independent radio stations, and homeless shelters.

Left Bank Books

Founded in the city of St. Louis in 1969, Left Bank Books is a lesbian-owned independent bookstore offering a wide range of new and used books, and specializing in politics, contemporary arts and literature, high-quality children’s books, African American interest, and more.

The store hosts over 200 events each year, including author discussions, reading group meetings, and many other community gatherings.

A Room of One’s Own

Founded in 1975, A Room of One’s Own is a feminist bookstore in downtown Madison, Wisconsin. The store specializes in women’s literature and offers a wide selection of fiction, nonfiction, periodicals, music, posters, and T-shirts for and by women. A Room of One’s Own also maintains a non-sexist children's section and stocks up-to-date titles in lesbian and gay studies, bisexual and transgender books, gender studies, as well as lesbian and gay male fiction. The store hosts several author events throughout the year.

Libros Schmibros Lending Library

Founded in 2010, Libros Schmibros is a lending library and used bookstore that seeks to foster the literary and cultural life of Boyle Heights in Los Angeles. Working with local residents, artists, writers, readers and public officials, Libros Schmibros is dedicated to both the exploration of literature and the study, questioning, celebration, and betterment of Southern California.
