Editorial Focus
Room [est. 1975] showcases fiction, poetry, reviews, art work, interviews and profiles about the female experience. The magazine was originally called Room of One's Own, in honour of Virginia Woolf's assertion that, “[for a woman] it is necessary to have five hundred [pounds] a year and a room with a lock on the door if you are to write fiction or poetry.” We envision the magazine as an open forum for women writers, including trans* persons, gender-variant and two-spirit women, and women of non-binary sexual orientations.
90% of the work published in Room comes from unsolicited submissions.
