Editorial Focus
High Desert Journal is an online literary and visual art magazine dedicated to further understanding the people, places and issues of the interior West. Its pages help define this region in literary and artistic terms, and represent a collection of work that charts the changes of a distinctive, unique region. It accepts work from residents of the region working with any theme and from anyone living outside the region creating work with high desert themes and elements.
Tips From the Editor
HDJ is looking for thoughtful, evocative, lyrical, experimental, hard-nosed and honest poetry, prose and artwork. We don't want sentimental gushing about how beautiful the west is. We don't want purple prose. Think how Cormac McCarthy brings the people and landscape into his work. Ranchers read our magazine. Urban poets read our magazine. We like a point of view, even if contentious. Keep it real and write very, very, very well.
