Printed triannually and distributed around the world, F(r)iction publishes work from bold, new writers to pioneering leaders in the industry, spotlighting underrepresented voices and celebrating the weird and wonderful.
Each issue also features work from a community partner, spotlighting marginalized and underrepresented voices that are often ignored by the mainstream publishing industry. Partners include the Lamp Lifeboat Ladder, Lambda Literary, and Veteran’s Writing Project.
Tips From the Editor
We are drawn to fiction with:
- strong character arcs in which the narrator is deeply changed by their experiences
- strong character voice and/or perspective
- structure that informs and contributes to understanding content
- language that surprises
- strange situations, characters, occurrences, if it’s weird, we want to see it
- stories of transformation
We are particularly drawn to poetry that capitalizes on:
- narrative trajectory
- central imagery
- strong content-to-structure relationship (If you pop words randomly all over the page, we should be able to suss out why based on the words themselves.)
