Editorial Focus
Calliope is published by the Writers' Special Interest Group (SIG) of American Mensa, Ltd. It is published four times a year with a circulation that spans six countries and nearly every state in the USA. Calliope is essentially a writer’s workshop by mail, providing a forum where writers can exchange ideas, learn more about their craft, and see their work in print. New writers are always welcome. Membership in Mensa is not required to subscribe or to submit works for publication. We accept Poetry and Fiction submissions on an irregular basis, other submissions any time.
Tips From the Editor
Fiction in Calliope should entertain the readers, most of whom are writers or aspiring writers. Calliope is open to any genre of short fiction, including science fiction, fantasy, horror, mystery, and all their sub-genres. Mixed genre stories and experimental forms are also welcome. Mainstream/literary stories will be considered if they are in some way out of the ordinary. Humor and satire are greatly appreciated. Editorial focus is on originality, characterization, emotional content, and imagery. Sex, gore, and strong language, while not forbidden, must be used with discretion and be an integral part of the story. Take chances; challenge the readership but don’t, in the process, forget to tell a good story.
