Editorial Focus
Since 1950, the BPJ has been publishing poetry that matters. We are open to a wide range of forms and styles in contemporary poetry. We are always watching for new poets, quickened language, and poems with a fresh purchase on the political or social landscape.
Tips From the Editor
The senior editors (Rachel Contreni Flynn and Kirun Kapur) read every poem we receive. We do not charge reading fees during our general reading periods (January 1-31 and July 1-August 31); have two contest reading periods that require fees, the Adrienne Rich Award for Poetry (February 1-April 30) and the Chad Walsh Chapbook Series (September 1-November 30); allow simultaneous submissions; and are conscientious about responding to manuscripts promptly. In return, we ask that you honor our guidelines, listed on our website.
