Editorial Focus
Artful Dodge has always been attracted to writing with a sense of place and cultural landscape. Besides new American fiction, poetry and narrative essay, we’re also interested in contemporary literature in translation from all over the globe. Since 1990 we have run a special “Poets as Translators” section in each issue, in which prominent and emerging American poets present both their own poetry and translation work side by side. Our interview series has included conversations with Jorge Luis Borges, Gwendolyn Brooks, Terry Tempest Williams and Czeslaw Milosz.
Tips From the Editor
We believe in the old adage you are what you eat. Or, you write what you read. Thus, we think there’s a link between your familiarity with what Artful Dodge publishes (or other literary journals) and your own assessment of whether your work would work with us. We need readers as well as writers, and --although our writers hardly write the same--you need to make sure you’d like to be in the company we keep in issue after issue.
