Come visit the Mushroom tent at Dolores Park! We will be set up with a red and white tent along the main sidewalk down the center near 19th and Dolores St. If any questions, please feel free to reach out.
We will be selling our book and mingling with the vibrant local community. We will probably have a slack line up. Bring a picnic blanket, maybe a lunch and even a drink, and come sit a while! Kids and pets welcome.
Synopsis: In 1823, an anonymous writer submitted a poem about Santa to the local newspaper. Exactly 200 years later, by total coincidence, I wrote my own twist on that holiday classic to share the studied natural origins of our celebrations (as if the stars aligned)! After years of research into a blend of science and nature (including comparative religion, ecology, biology, neuroscience, his-story, linguistics, archeology), the greatest insight I found was that we all have so much more in common than we know. We all want to connect. We all feel awe when we look up at the sky, or deep down into the dirt. As I was looking for my own lost heritage as a daughter of a Croatian immigrant, I found connection in understanding this thread we all share with all life on this planet- including that impulse to miss the sun on the longest cold nights of the year.
And maybe that pretty little mushroom that stars in our poem can be a symbol of this expansion of mind, of this communication era, where we can discuss our collective past, and help us make new connections with each other for a more unified holiday.
