New Year, New Myths with Elline Lipkin

Workshop

In this workshop we will think about the myths that surround the new year: fresh starts, blank slates, new beginnings. We will experiment with a variety of prompts to write about these concepts, while holding the idea that the 'ideal' year we plan might not be the reality that we meet. Drawing from fairy tales and myths, we will write our own versions in which the imagined meets with contemporary life, the unexpected, and the unknown. We will draw together hope for the new year alongside grief for the past and see what our writing brings.

The workshop is free and open to the public – all ages and backgrounds are welcome, and we extend a special invitation to those who were impacted by the fire. Please bring a notebook and a pen if you can; otherwise, we will provide paper and writing utensils for you. Workshop participants are invited to share their work at our January 24 open mic.
