LIT CLE: Writing the Working Class

06/23/2021 - 5:30pm to 6:30pm

Old-fashioned, blue-collar American work is part of our identity in northeast Ohio, where nothing is given, everything is earned, and you work for what you have. Join us for this six-part series of classes on writing the working class presented in collaboration with Willoughby-Eastlake Public Library’s Between the Lines Author Series.

In the writing workshops from 5:30-6:30pm you will explore your own relationship with work by creating and developing a piece of original writing. Instructors will share techniques, lead participants in writing exercises, and inspire you to break through to new levels of creativity and productivity in your writing.

Following each workshop, from 6:30-7:30pm, you have the option to join a conversation with a visiting author whose book connects thematically the subject of work.

This series leads up to the major event: an evening with Jess Walter, author of The Cold Millions, on August 5 as part of the Lake County League of Libraries’ community read program.

Advance registration for the six-part workshop is required to have writing critiqued by the group, but silent auditing or attending a single workshop to observe and seek inspiration is allowed and encouraged. Registration for author conversations is separate.
