Reading

This in-person book launch and reading celebrates the publication of "La ciudad en mi lengua" | "The City in my tongue," an anthology comprised of writings from participants in Spanish-language creative writing workshops facilitated by teacher and writer Marianela Fernández, and co-sponsored by Word Up bookstore and Westbeth Artists Housing.

During workshops this spring, participants engaged with various literary texts from Latin American writers such as Rita Indiana (República Dominicana), Silvina López Medín (Argentina), Pablo Neruda (Chile), Irene Gruss (Argentina), and responded to writing exercises and prompts on the topic of cities--real and imaginary--culminating in this anthology which captures their experiences on what it means to live, work, and write while living a city life. Join us on June 23 to hear participants read writing featured in the anthology!

For those unable to attend this in-person event, an accompanying virtual launch and reading will take place online on June 30, at 7:00 PM.

THIS PROGRAM IS SUPPORTED, IN PART, BY PUBLIC FUNDS FROM THE NEW YORK CITY DEPARTMENT OF CULTURAL AFFAIRS IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE CITY COUNCIL.
