On Oct 28, KGB Bar Monday Night Poetry Reading Series presents poets Marie Howe, Donna Masini, and Lisa Hiton. Doors will open at 7 PM, and the reading will begin at 7:30 PM. The event will be held on the second floor. Not wheelchair accessible. Must be 21+ to attend.
Marie Howe is the author New and Selected Poems, ( W.W. Norton 2024.) which includes poems from her four previous books. From 2012-2014, she served as the Poet Laureate of New York State. She is the poet in residence at The Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine, and a chancellor of the Academy of American Poets.
Donna Masini’s latest collection of poems, 4:30 Movie, an elegy for her sister, explores personal loss, global violence, the ways in which movies shape our imaginations. Her work has appeared in journals and anthologies including Best American Poetry, Poetry, Ploughshares, APR, Open City, TriQuarterly, Paris Review, Brooklyn Poets, Renga for Obama, et al. A recipient of a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship, New York Foundation for the Arts Grant, a Pushcart Prize, et al, she is a Professor of English at Hunter College where she teaches in the MFA Creative Writing program.
Lisa Hiton's debut book of poems, Afterfeast, was selected by Mary Jo Bang to win the Dorset Prize at Tupelo Press. She holds an M.F.A. in poetry from Boston University and an M.Ed. in Arts in Education from Harvard University. Her poems have been published or are forthcoming in New South, Linebreak, The Paris-American, Hayden’s Ferry Review, and LAMBDA Literary among others. She is the founder and co-director of Queer Poem-a-Day at the Deerfield Public Library.
The KGB Monday Night Poetry Reading Series, now in its 27th year, brings together nationally recognized, award winning, established and emerging poets to New York and gives them a mic in the legendary KGB Bar. We aim to provide New York audiences with the best, most compelling, accomplished, diverse, and original poets representative of the current American climate. Originally created by David Lehman and Star Black, the series is now hosted by John Deming, Jada Gordon, Tyler Allen Penny, and Susan Lewis.
