“Step into a scene and let it drip through your fingertips.” — MJ Bush
Ekphrastic writing has been described as “taking the visual and transforming it to the verbal.” This form of writing, used for centuries, encourages writers to use visual art as a muse for putting words to paper. Participants will learn about the distinct types of ekphrastic writing and engage with imaginative writing prompts, exploring the use of images as a source of inspiration for original, unexpected stories. These generative, interactive sessions will offer numerous opportunities to witness how visual art—photographs, fine art, graphic design, as well as images we’ll create ourselves—can be both a wellspring for new projects and a way to infuse current projects with energy and excitement. The workshop will include a taste of SoulCollage®, an expressive arts method through which we’ll create our own images and write from them. (A background in art is not required.) Participants will have the opportunity to share their work and receive positive, uplifting feedback.
