Books at the Institute presents Looking at Women Looking at War. Join Tetyana Teren, Executive Director, PEN Ukraine and Lydia Tomkiw, journalist, for an engaging discussion of Victoria Amelina’s acclaimed book, Looking at Women Looking at War. When Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022, novelist Victoria Amelina became a war crimes researcher, documenting devastation and recording survivors’ testimonies. On June 27, 2023, a Russian missile strike in Donetsk left her fatally injured; she died days later at thirty-seven. Her final book, a profound testament to the human cost of war, stands as a timeless classic.
