When Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022, novelist Victoria Amelina became a war crimes researcher, documenting devastation and recording survivors’ testimonies. On June 27, 2023, a Russian missile strike in Donetsk left her fatally injured; she died days later at thirty-seven. Her final book, a profound testament to the human cost of war, stands as a timeless classic.
