About BLK SKINHEAD:
A collection of essays,Black Skinhead is about the historical alliance– and contemporary breakdown– between Black voters and the Democratic party. It’s garnering positive reviews from the New York Times, Kirkus Reviews, Publishers Weekly, and more.
Black skinheads live in the cracks and economic uncertainties of the dominant American national culture. They live in our shifting understanding of what it means to be Black (especially politically). They live outside of the bounds of fetishized Black political identity. They are not yet a fully formed subculture or community. They are people moving into various micro-worlds or alternative political factions in response to a mainstream story of Blackness that they don't feel a part of.
This book is a love letter to Black people, our subcultures and music. It’s a look at Black economic struggle & how it threatens to disrupt politics as usual. Finally, it’s a warning about what we all lose when we lose our history & our story.
