Beyond Baroque presents Black Radiance, a mini arts festival and poetry reading in collaboration with SKEW Magazine. Come and support booths highlighting Black artists and creatives of Los Angeles in The Poets’ Garden. Then check out the reading in The Wanda Coleman Theater with poets and contributors to SKEW’s 4th issue showcasing works under the theme “Black Embodiment,” including Managing Editor Bri Stokes and poets Rhys Langston, Liliana Jeanine, Jaden Fields, and Aiyana Sha’niel.
2023’s edition of SKEW examines the theme of Black Embodiment in all its faces, vibrancy, and variations. A celebration and reclamation of Black bodies, SKEW 04 illuminates the power, resilience, and glory of what it means to embrace the body as a perfect, complete entity, a temple to revere, honor, and uplift. For this theme, participants were encouraged to submit pieces that reflected “embodiment” in both literal and abstract manifestations. The result is a collection of deeply resonant, glorious works that entice the reader on every page, inviting stillness and awe.
Reneice Charles is the Level Ground Staff artist currently running SKEW Magazine as its Editor-in-Chief. A new team of curators is hired to bring each issue to life.
Full vendor lineup TBA. There are still vendor spots available for Black artists and publishers interested in tabling. Please send us your info at info@beyondbaroque.org by Thursday, February 8.
Vendors: 7:00 - 10:00 PM. Poetry Reading: 8:00 - 9:00 PM.
