Babylon Village Arts Council presents Poetry in the Village on Thursday October 5th from 7-8:30 pm at Jack Jack’s Coffee House, 223 Deer Park Ave, Babylon, NY. Featured poets Cheryl Williams and Kristina Scheid will be followed by an open mic. Admission is free. Open mic sign-up begins at 6:45 pm. The event is curated and hosted by the Poet Laureate of Suffolk County, Deborah Hauser.
Cheryl Williams is a wife, mother, author, and nurse with a passion for the Arts. Her love for poetry started at the tender age of five when she recited the poem "Grandfather Frog” for a school function. Six years later, her world was turned upside down after her mother suffered a massive stroke. During those uncertain times, music, writing, and poetry helped her cope. Williams was inspired to pursue nursing as a way to help others heal. Williams is the author of “A Collection Of Poems: A Journey Through Life” and “A Lesson a Day: A Child’s Way” which is dedicated to children everywhere. She is the recipient of the Top Female Author 2019 award in the poetry category.
Kristina Scheid of West Babylon graduated from North Babylon High School and is a graduate student at Queens College CUNY studying for her master’s degree in English. Growing up she was always writing stories and poems, but didn’t share them with friends and family. She has been published in Molloy University’s Student Literary Magazine. Many of her works contain intimate motifs while others are directly influenced by historical events. In her free time, Scheid enjoys being a Game Master for Dungeons & Dragons campaigns that she wrote. She finds that writing lengthy pieces that have the ability to shift at any moment due to one character’s actions has sharpened her writing skills.
