The June 7 & 8 Summit will underscore the global censorship artists face, while promoting unity and resilience within the creative community to uphold artistic freedom and defend human rights. Renowned socially engaged artists and cultural workers will explore the strong links between art and human rights.

On June 7th, the artistic freedom summit will begin with renowned photographer and visual artist Shirin Neshat exploring the pressing challenges facing artists in authoritarian regimes. Her work, which has never been shown in Iran, boldly declares the female presence in a male-dominated culture. In her films and photographs, the female gaze becomes a powerful and dangerous instrument for communication.

Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and creator of the 1619 Project, Nikole Hannah-Jones, the renowned American visual artist Dread Scott, who the New York Times has dubbed a “godfather of art-activism” and Palestinian painter and scholar Samia Halaby, whose major exhibition at Indiana University was canceled earlier this year, will address experiences of artists confronting censorship globally.

With dozens of creatives from around the world and a plethora of inspiring discussions, you won’t want to miss Dangerous Art, Endangered Artists!
