Workshop

Students and teachers from North Chicago Community High School offer an ongoing workshop, during the upcoming Lake County Maker Faire, which involves designing and making 3D art and creative writing projects inspired by recycled objects. Using trash to create objects of functionality, meaning or beauty instead of landfill is the goal. A variety of recycled materials will be explored for their potential, establishing them as art making materials. Repurposing aluminum cans for surface decoration or beads for fashion items, taking discarded papers and drawing, painting or journaling on them, using plastic bags to make “plarn” for knitting or crocheting – all of these are possible in the recycled Artlab. This is National Poetry Month, and we welcome poetry writing during this workshop. Also, this is Earth Month, and our workshop resonates with this important connection. All supplies – including recycled objects, pens, markers, paint and other materials – will be provided.
