Los Angeles Review of Books (LARB) is hiring a full-time Membership & Development Manager to oversee its membership program and support its fundraising efforts. As a reader-supported nonprofit, LARB depends on the contributions of our community of members and donors to sustain our work as an award-winning magazine and literary arts organization here in Los Angeles. LARB’s Membership Program includes a print & digital subscription to LARB Quarterly, a seasonal Book Club, discounts to our shop and partner bookshop.org, access to members-only events, and more. LARB runs membership and donation drives throughout the year to support its programming, typically culminating in a larger end-of-year drive in December.
LARB is looking for a highly organized, detail-oriented, energetic, and creative individual who enjoys working collaboratively with others in a fast-paced environment. The Membership & Development Manager should be an effective communicator who is able to engage our broad base of supporters and stakeholders in a timely, engaging, and professional manner. The Membership & Development Manager would be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Membership program and donor database on NeonOne CRM. Prior experience working with NeonOne or comparable CRMs is recommended. This individual would also work closely with the Executive Director and other staff members to create and implement fundraising campaigns and related marketing efforts and serve as a primary point of contact for members and supporters. Prior experience in nonprofit fundraising and marketing is preferred but not required. The ideal candidate would demonstrate strong enthusiasm for publishing and literature and be adept at project and time management.
Following are the primary responsibilities of LARB’s Membership & Development Manager to be carried out under the supervision of the Executive Director, in consultation with the Editor in Chief.
- Manage day-to-day operations of LARB membership program and donor database
- Coordinate implementation of related fundraising campaigns and marketing
- Assist in strategizing growth and development of membership program
- Manage communications and relations with members, subscribers, donors, writers, and more
- Prepare monthly membership, subscription, and donor reports and related reporting
- Supervise marketing and/or membership intern(s)
- Plan and coordinate quarterly book club discussions, editorial salons, and other membership programs as needed
- Help staff other LARB events throughout the year
- Perform such other duties as may be required or requested
Recommended skills & experience
- Highly organized and detail-oriented
- Experience working with a CRM, preferably NeonOne
- Proficiency in Mailchimp, Airtable, Microsoft Excel and Canva
- Familiarity with working in a CMS
- Graphic design experience a plus
