Marketing Assistant

Hub City Press Marketing Assistant (FT / In-Person) (application deadline April 26, 2022 | apply through Submittable)
Hub City Press publishes around 8 books a year and our small team handles everything from manuscript acquisition to design to publication. The ideal candidate for this role—the third member of what's currently a two-person on-site workforce—will be curious, self-starting, and excited to gain hands-on experience with the entirety of the publication process.
  • Working with the Director to create and carry out publicity and marketing campaigns for frontlist titles (6-8 per year)
  • Write and update press releases and pitches
  • Overseeing metadata input and upkeep for frontlist and backlist titles on our distributor's title management system Coresource
  • Upload and maintain review quotes and promotional graphics to sales and marketing platforms such as Edelweiss and Amazon A+. Work in collaboration with sales representatives so they are informed and enthusiastic about Hub City Press titles 
  • Build and manage relations with key media and booksellers throughout the US
  • Organize author tours, launches, readings, receptions, and festival and trade show appearances. 
  • Interact with authors to strategize publicity opportunities and to execute promotional and publicity events
  • Fulfill daily Press orders for consumers and booksellers, etc. 
  • Read and think about all our books. Assist with acquisitions, prizes, and editing of manuscripts when needed
  • Field author queries and help manage author relations, including travel arrangements
  • Maintain pages for frontlist and backlist titles, including updating cover images, author bios, marketing copy, and publication dates as needed
  • Assist with Hub City Writers Project programmatic activities, including workshops and annual conference
  • Other duties as assigned
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Enthusiasm for and knowledge of contemporary American literature
  • 1 year of book publishing experience preferred
  • Excellent organizational, writing, and verbal communication skills
  • Deadline management, attention to detail, and an ability to work independently on projects
  • Familiarity with the publishing and media landscape preferred.
  • Proficiency in Word and Google Suite is required; knowledge of InDesign and other design software is a plus
  • Bachelor’s degree required
Full-time 35-hour a week position in Spartanburg, SC. Salary is $30k plus a non-taxable $3600 healthcare stipend and access to dollar-for-dollar matching SIMPLE 401K savings plan.
