Description
The Department of Creative Writing at the University of North Carolina Wilmington invites applicants for a full-time, tenure track Assistant/Associate Professor of Creative Writing/Poetry position on a continuing 9-month appointment starting August 2025.
Upon initial appointment, and dependent on their expertise and passions, responsibilities may entail teaching a range of graduate and undergraduate creative writing courses, including workshops, craft-based literature courses, and courses in the publishing arts.
The selected candidate will also direct and read MFA theses, mentor graduate teaching assistants, and serve on departmental and university committees, joining a nationally recognized department that houses both a BFA and an MFA in Creative Writing, as well as graduate and undergraduate Certificates in Publishing.
Candidates with significant professional experience and/or significant teaching experience at another university will be considered for Associate Professor rank.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
- A terminal degree in Creative Writing (MFA, PhD) or closely related field at time of application
- At least one book of poetry of literary merit from a national press
- Demonstrated, sustained excellence in teaching poetry writing at both undergraduate and graduate levels
Preference will be given to candidates with:
- Secondary expertise, which may include a strong publication record in a second genre, or experience working and teaching in the publishing arts
- Experience teaching the work of writers historically or currently underrepresented in American and global literature curricula
