Author's Bio

I'm a native of Atlanta and got my B.A. from Georgia State University. I have a Ph.D. in Modern Literature and Poetry from Tulane University, and am Professor of English at Youngstown State University, where I've taught since 1986, and where I've been awarded Distinguished Professorships in both teaching and scholarship (thrice). My tenth full-length collection is The Accidental Garden. My ninth full-length collection, Everywhere at Once, is from the University of Akron Press Poetry Series, which also published my seventh collection, Ascending Order (2003), winner of the 2004 Ohioana Poetry Book of the Year Award, and I Have My Own Song For It: Modern Poems of Ohio (2002), which I co-edited with Elton Glaser. My eighth full-length collection, Fishing at the End of the World, is from Word Press (2005), which is also publishing my newest full-length collection, The Accidental Garden, in 2014.

My publications include Poetry, American Poetry Review, Southern Review, Georgia Review, Prairie Schooner, Poetry Northwest, and Shenandoah.
