Author's Bio

I've enjoyed writing for a long time. I was editor of my high school newspaper in the Chicago area, earned a degree in Journalism while carrying a second major in Creative writing, and worked as Public Relations Director for a large municipal arts organization near Tampa (for whom I published monthly tabloid with interviews of international artists).

Then began my career in marketing as an ad agency public relations manager and copy writer. After working for local, national and international clients from offices in several large USA cities, I built a "beach house in a cow pasture" in rural South Carolina where I grow grapes, peaches, plums, figs, blackberries and banana trees. I drive an old Jeep with holes in the floor to let rainwater out. And I spend a good bit of time trying to write novels.

My first published novel, Blue Rubber Pool, printed by a small traditional press on the West Coast, blurs the line between memoir and fiction in its description of my mid-life crisis spent in a $200 kiddie pool listening to a long Led Zeppelin cassette.

A second novel is under contract for traditional publication next summer. Two other manuscripts are in final or close to final revision. All four manuscripts are set in the South and reflect my childhood years spent in South Carolina, young adult years in Florida, and my recent move to a small crossroads of a place near Spartanburg.

The library at my home, Pineapple Hill, includes hundreds of books: fiction, non-fiction and poetry. I'm interested in trading critiques with other writers in the area. In the video below, I'm in my hammock reading aloud Pablo Neruda's poem The Morning Is Full.
