Author's Bio

I contracted Covid-19 in March 2020 and never got better. This was during the first wave of what has come to be known as Long Haul Covid. There is not very much good one can say about the pandemic, except that it inspired me to write a series of poems about my illness. Writing poetry saved my life.

Before I retired in 2019,  I was a Certified Professional Dog Trainer and behaviorist. I still blog regularly as BARK! Confessions of a Dog Trainer. Prior to starting my business, I served as Assistant Dean of the College of Computing and Information at the University at Albany, and as President of the New York Library Association.  I have a Masters degree from the University of Michigan and a Bachelors degree from the University of Houston.

I am the editor of Funeral and Memorial Service My poems have been either accepted or published in the following journals: The Raven's Perch, High Shelf Press, Poetry Soup, Poetica Review, Ariel's Dream, Drunk Monkeys, Wingless Dreamer, Bark Magazine newsletter, Around the World: Landscapes and Citiscapes anthology, Delaware Valley Arts Alliance For the Love of Wood exhibit, Stories and Poems in the Songs of Life anthology, Panoplyzine, The Jewish Writing Project, Open Door Poetry Magazine, Palooza Magazine, Journal of Expressive Writing, Third Wednesday, Plainsongs, The Apple Tree, Crosswinds, and Soul Poetry Society.Readings, Poems and Tributes (MacFarland, 1999), recipient of Best Non-Fiction award in 2000 by Today's Librarian.

I am Chair of the Poet Laureate Committee, charged with the selection of the first Poet Laureate of Saratoga Springs, NY.

When I am not rewriting a poem, I am kayaking, fishing, volunteering, whitewater rafting, collecting modern first editions, knitting or crocheting. I am a licensed private pilot though I no longer fly. I live with my tenth dog, a Jack Russell Terrier named Tennyson, in upstate New York.
