Ibrahim Nureni (he/his) is a Nigerian-born haiku poet, literary critic, book reviewer, and researcher whose work engages with themes of sociocultural identity, politics, environmental change, and medical discourse. His poetry, primarily in the haiku form, has been published in journals such as Cattails, Shamrock, The Heron’s Nest, Acorn, Chrysanthemum, and others.

His haiku have been publicly exhibited in locations including the Atlanta Botanical Garden, Golden Triangle Street in Washington D.C., and Stone Pharmacy in Dartford, UK. 

As a book reviewer, Ibrahim has written over fifteen reviews published online, contributing to literary discourse through critical engagement with contemporary texts. He has been considered for fellowships such as the Bill Anderson Fund and the Harrison Middleton University's Fellowship in Ideas.

Ibrahim is actively involved in poetry communities across Africa and beyond. In addition, he currently serves as Assistant Editor of The Mamba, a journal dedicated to African haiku, and as Editor of Comparative Woman Journal, which focuses on literature at the intersection of gender, politics, and cultural studies.

Prizes won: 

His poetry has received recognition in several international competitions. In 2025, he was awarded First Prize in the Voices of Lincoln Poetry Contest (Rise to Life's Challenges category), the People's Choice Grand Award at the Atlanta Haiku Festival Competition, and First Prize in the Mukai Farm & Garden Haiku Contest (Social category). He also received Second Place in the Maya Lyubenova Haiku Contest and the Foreign Poet Award in the XII National December Haiku Competition. Previous honors include Runner-up in the 2019 Bulgarian International Haiku Contest and Joint Winner of the 2016 Calabar Poetry Festival Prize, among others.
