Alan Feldman was born on Long Island in 1945 and educated at Columbia College where he edited the Columbia Review.  He earned a doctorate in American literature at SUNY at Buffalo and in 1972 accepted a post at Framingham State University where he taught as a professor and served as chair of the English department.  For twenty-two years he also taught the advanced creative writing course at the Harvard's Radcliffe Seminars.  After retirement he and Tony Hoagland began a free weekly drop-in workshop at the Wellfleet (MA) public library on Cape Cod which Feldman has continued both in Framingham and Wellfleet.  He has been honored with a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship in Poetry and a Massachusetts Artists Foundation grant.  His books have won a number of awards including the Massachusetts Book Award for poetry for Immortality published by the University of Wisconsin Press in 2015.  He is married to the artist Nan Hass Feldman and the two have produced numerous chapbooks together.
