The Virginia Center for the Creative Arts (VCCA) offers residencies of varying lengths (up to two months) year-round to poets, fiction writers, and creative nonfiction writers at Mt. San Angelo in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Residents are provided with private lodging and work space, three prepared meals daily, and access to the facilities of nearby Sweet Briar College. The residency fee ranges from $75 to $150 a day, depending on financial circumstances; fully funded fellowships and need-based financial aid are available. For residencies from January through April 2023, using only the online submission system submit six to 10 poems, up to two short stories or essays, or up to 25 pages of a book of prose, a project description, a brief bio, and a résumé with a $30 application fee by May 15. VCCA is also accepting applications for the biennial Wachtmeister Award, which includes a fully funded stay of up to 30 days at the residency (to be scheduled between July 1, 2023, and June 30, 2025), a $1,000 honorarium, and up to $750 for travel reimbursement; established fiction writers who have not previously attended the residency are eligible to apply.
