The 24th annual Postgraduate Writers’ Conference was held from August 12 to August 18 on the Vermont College of Fine Arts campus in Montpelier. Designed for writers with graduate degrees or equivalent experience, the conference featured workshops in poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction, as well as readings, craft classes, and individual consultations with faculty members. Each workshop was limited to five or six participants. The faculty included poets Eduardo C. Corral, Matthew Dickman, Kathleen Graber, A. Van Jordan, and Patricia Smith; fiction writers William Giraldi, David Jauss, Ellen Lesser, Lee Martin, and Tiphanie Yanique; and creative nonfiction writers Sonja Livingston, Dinty W. Moore, Sue William Silverman, and Clifford Thompson. Tuition was $995 for all workshops except for the poetry manuscript workshop, which was $1,175. The cost for on-campus housing was $370 for a single room or $200 for a shared room. The full conference meal plan was $230. Scholarships were available; writers submitted a five-page writing sample and a letter explaining need. Applications were accepted on a rolling basis. Visit the website for more information.
