Funding/Employment Opportunities: 

The program offers full funding to all students through teaching assistantships and/or fellowships. Students can pursue an additional Master’s degree while in the MFA program at no extra cost.

Graduation typically happens within three years, but the program is fully funded for up to four.

The program can be completed in three to four years. All students are guaranteed support for a fourth year of study; many take advantage of this option in order to have a year to focus on the thesis project and to gain additional teaching experience. The preferred application deadline is December 1, however the final deadline is December 31.

The program sponsors a robust Visiting Writers Series featuring emerging and established authors, many of whom work directly with students. Other teaching opportunities include with the Alabama Prison Arts & Education Program and the annual summer UA Young Writers Camp.
