The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo director David Fincher is in discussions to helm the screen adaptation of Gillian Flynn's bestselling Gone Girl. Reese Witherspoon and Bruna Papandrea at Pacific Standard will produce the film. (In July 2012, the Wall Street Journal reported Gone Girl was optioned for one million dollars, with Flynn paid an additional five hundred thousand dollars to pen the screenplay.)
