Picador on Tuesday launched a book club on Twitter. Every Tuesday the literary trade paperback imprint will choose a new book (published by Picador, of course) and invite readers to discuss it via the social networking and microblogging service—in 140-character text messages called "tweets"—two weeks later. On the day of each new announcement, the publisher will give away a number of copies of the chosen book. The first book up for discussion is Yoko Ogawa's The Housekeeper and the Professor, which will be discussed on April 10. Readers with a free Twitter account who sign up for the book club can discuss the book at any time, but on the scheduled date of discussion, they will have the opportunity to correspond directly with the author and editor of the book.

Upcoming titles include A Wolf at the Table by Augusten Burroughs (April 17), The Story of a Marriage by Andrew Sean Greer (April 24), Last Last Chance by Fiona Maazel, (May 1), The Sorrows of an American by Siri Hustvedt (May 8), and Burnt Shadows by Kamila Shamsie (May 15).
