The 40th annual New York State Summer Writers Institute was held from June 21 to July 18 at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs. The program features two- and four-week workshops in poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction. The faculty included poets Peg Boyers, Megan Fernandes, Elisa Gonzalez, Ishion Hutchinson, Sandra Lim, Campbell McGrath, and Rosanna Warren; fiction writers Hannah Lillith Assadi, Elizabeth Benedict, Adam Braver, Joshua Cohen, Vinson Cunningham, Amy Hempel, Susan Minot, and Rick Moody; and creative nonfiction writers Phillip Lopate and Thomas Chatterton Williams. Tuition was $2,300 for two weeks and $4,600 for four weeks. A room on campus was $606 for two weeks and $1,212 for four weeks; meals were $536 for two weeks and $1,072 for four weeks. Optional manuscript tutorials were also available for an extra $550. Using only the online application system, writers submitted two or three poems of any length or 5 to 20 pages of prose and a personal statement with a $60 application fee.
