The 37th annual Napa Valley Writers’ Conference was held from July 23 to July 28 at Napa Valley College, situated among the hills and vineyards of St. Helena, California. The conference featured workshops in poetry and fiction, craft lectures, panels, and evening readings with wine receptions at venues around Napa Valley. The faculty included poets Eavan Boland, Jane Hirshfield, Ada Limón, and Matthew Zapruder; and fiction writers Lan Samantha Chang, Peter Ho Davies, Daniel Orozco, and ZZ Packer. The cost of the conference was $975, which included daily breakfast and lunch, two dinners, and wine tastings. Lodging was available at nearby hotels for discounted rates. Writers submitted five poems or 10 to 15 pages of fiction, a brief personal statement, and a $25 application fee. The deadline for priority admission and financial aid was March 31, 2018; applications were accepted thereafter on a rolling basis. Registration was first come, first served.
