The 2019 Minnesota Northwoods Writers Conference was held from June 17 to June 23 on the Bemidji State University campus, located beside Lake Bemidji, 220 miles north of Minneapolis. The conference featured workshops in poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction, daily craft talks, editing and publishing panels, an evening reading series, and manuscript consultations. The faculty included poets Camille Dungy, Ada Limón, and Aimee Nezhukumatathil; fiction writer Peter Orner; and nonfiction writer Dustin Parson. The 2019 Distinguished Visiting Writer was poet Terrance Hayes. The cost of the conference, which included a five-day workshop, seminars, and five meals, was $650 until April 1 and $750 thereafter. Half-hour manuscript consultations were available for an additional $60. An auditor option, which included all conference events and amenities except a workshop, was available for $150. Lodging was available on campus for $225 for the week. Using the online application system, writers submitted 5 to 10 pages of poetry or 10 to 25 pages of prose by May 1. Workshops were limited to 12 participants; registration was first come, first served. Visit the website for complete guidelines.
